Heading to the Sitecore Symposium 2017 in Las Vegas

Posted by sitecore\rpeplau

The clock ticks, time never stops: we are approaching another Sitecore Symposium! It’s time to meet lots of good Sitecore friends and new people from our great community. Learn and discover what’s new at our beloved ecosystem. Hang out and enjoy great places in the presence of very nice people.

This year I am super excited for my debut with the Nish Tech crew, a high qualified team of Sitecore professionals. We have a physical presence at the #Booth311 of the Partner’s Pavilion, and I certainly have a lot to learn with my colleagues on how to promote our products and services, especially SAFIC - our Sitecore Commerce Accelerator. I’ll have to catch up quickly!

So what’s up there to be discovered? What are the hot points this year? Check out below what I have in mind for this exciting week!

Monday, Oct 16th

First day of Symposium is usually lighter, but this year I have a spicy action right at the morning: as a Sitecore MVP and volunteer of Sitecore 9 Pilot Training Course, I will be running my Sitecore 9 Certification Test. This is an amazing opportunity to get my certification updated, at the same time that I help Sitecore improve the training course with feedbacks. Also, as a pilot experiment, it is all going to be zero-cost.
You will be able to find me most part of the afternoon (as well as all possible gaps and intervals between sessions all week) at the #Booth311 with my mates of Nish Tech. Stay at the Partner’s Pavilion and enjoy with us the always inspiring Sitecore Symposium Welcome Reception!

Tuesday, Oct 17th

In my breakout sessions, I’m planning to attend to the strategy session “Building your platform for scale”, a very interesting subject in this very robust platform. Scaling is always a concern, especially at the current complexity degree that Sitecore has reached, so let’s get updated on this matter!
Next I will head up to the session “Technical deep dive: SXA”. Mastering the Sitecore official accelerator is one of Nish Tech’s top priorities, as we believe this will define the tone and represent an important stream of business in the next few years. That’s also the reason why my next session is “Introduction to SXA storefront - How SXA and the new commerce storefront work together”. Nish Tech, as a very strong eCommerce specialist, needs to be well informed about this blend of the SXA accelerator in conjunction with the new commerce storefront. In short: let’s get deeper and deeper on SXA!

Wednesday, Oct 18th

Morning starts with an interesting keynote: Kirsten Newbold-Knipp, from Gartner Research Company ( http://www.gartner.com ). Her company is responsible for the Magic Quadrant, a market comparison report that Sitecore leads for years in a row. Then it’s time to break some paradigms with the session “No more mythical phase 2 - Experience marketing during development”, which bases itself in a real and strong premise bringing expectations high. Talking about expectations, my next session “Effective DevOps for Sitecore”, is full of that as well. Some of the greatest professionals at the Sitecore field will be there presenting their DevOp experiences. This session will have the participation of my ex-colleague Jason St-Cyr (now at Sitecore) - can’t wait to see him in action again!

After lunch my attentions will go to the session about Data Exchange Framework. The only experience I have with this tool was at the Sitecore Hackathon 2017 in June, when my team picked this framework to develop a module and ended up winning the contest (More on: How we won the Hackathon - http://blog.peplau.com.br/en_US/how-we-won-the-hackathon/ ). At that time I notice the product was still a bit immature, now I’m curious to see how it is progressing since June.

We all kind of feel the future is today, but this session “Making Sitecore the world's first VR-enabled enterprise WCM” promises to be especially mind blowing. I know my friends from Tech Guilds are playing with these toys for a while, so let’s check how far they’ve been going.

Then it’s time to testify with my own two eyes, this that has everything to become a Sitecore sacred day: the day that Lucky Skywalker came to the Red Side of The Force. Mark Hamill, the actor who played that character for decades, will join Sitecore’s CMO Scott Anderson for the last keynote of the day. If that is not enough for you, night ends with the traditional Sitecore Symposium Party!

Thursday, Oct 19th

Last day of Symposium will be just part time, so don’t let the fatigue stop you from enjoy the last morning! Straight up to “Functional/non-Functional testing in Sitecore: Component & page level”, in which I hope to get closer to the view of a QA professional and learn how to embody practices and bring more quality to the software we produce. I also plan to learn a couple tricks at the session “A futuristic showcase of the omni-channel capabilities of Sitecore XP”, which promises to bring some smartness to the Sitecore marketing personalization and profiling capabilities, with the aid of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Then we have the closing keynote. I can already feel the nostalgy, the “end of a dream” feeling that assaults everyone at this point. A balance is generally provided and future is unveiled: future of the platform, what should be taking our attentions next? Future of Symposium: where will be the next edition? Future is what fills our brains, what fuels our souls.

Clock ticks, time never stops… A new overdose of inspiration has just been injected!
